Introduction

In 1950 a veritable mountain of evidence was published by Macmillan—perhaps the premier scientific textbook publisher at the time—which unapologetically revealed to the world that the history we have all been taught about our planet and mankind’s existence upon it is radically different from the reality our ancient forebears were forced to endure. This evidence was first gathered and presented by in his seminal work, Worlds in Collision, which became a runaway bestseller immediately upon it’s publication in 1950. [1]  In its pages, Dr. Velikovsky cited eyewitness testimonies recorded on stone, in caves and temples, and whatever writing medium could be found for more than two millennia on every continent and in virtually every culture that managed to survive, which records unanimously insist that cataclysmic natural disasters occurred virtually simultaneously around the globe, not millions of years ago, but well within recorded history. In 1955 another soaring peak was added which examined the evidence from a rather different perspective: the mute testimony of our own planet Earth, graven and seared into the very bedrock upon which we stand.

The geological and paleontological records show clear evidence—recorded in stone for all time—that our Earth has not been gradually shaping itself through minute processes, such as wind, rain and erosion, over billions of years, but that massive changes occurred repeatedly  and with terrifying suddenness, only a few thousand years ago, wiping out entire genera of living creatures, decimating forests with fire and water, thereby converting them into the coal we use today, thrusting entire mountain ranges into existence, invoking globe-encircling hurricanes and tsunamis, and displaying such destructive power as to literally tear continents apart.

While this may sound like the perfect script for a major Hollywood blockbuster, the shocking reality is that these things actually happened, and the evidence is all around us. In this group, we will focus primarily on the Earth’s testimony, honing in on one piece of evidence at a time, following the research presented by Dr. Velikovsky in his second groundbreaking treatise, Earth in Upheaval. [2]  We will also incorporate the human evidence, the eyewitness accounts of those who managed to survive the destruction around them and preserve their testimony, both in stone carvings and in the multi-layered, culture-founding mythologies and legends of our ancient ancestors. Many sources will be brought to bear, from those used by Dr. Velikovsky in his research as well as from cultures around the world that were little understood or unknown in the 1950’s, along with those from Israelite, Egyptian, Chinese, Aztec, Native American, Australian Aboriginal, and as many others as can be found.

Of particular value will be images and video from around the world that will be gathered here so that the reader may see with their own eyes the evidence of which Velikovsky wrote, and contributions of such content from participants in the international community would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully together we can form a coherent picture of what really happened in our past and the deeply-traumatic response it elicited in the psyche of all mankind and which is being subconsciously reenacted down to this very day, the most pressing concern of Velikovsky which he raised at the end of his Worlds in Collision and later posthumously published in Mankind in Amnesia in 1982.

But first, let’s explore what Dr. Velikovsky deemed “the most incredible story” [3] of miraculous intervention found in the Old Testament of the Bible: the halting of the sun and moon’s motion across the sky at the behest of one Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ successor as leader of the then-nomadic tribe of Israel.
